"After a review of the functions that have access to the voting result before everyone else, there is no longer any suspicion of an internal leak," writes SVT press officer Camilla Hagert.

SVT writes that they also contacted the betting company Betfair who also did not believe that the gaming activity would be linked to internal information leaked.

"This was a serious speculation and accusation and I had my doubts that this could really be true even when I was contacted by Aftonbladet," says Anette Helenius, project manager for Melodifestivalen in a press release.

Swedish games suspected of leaking

It was in mid-March that Aftonbladet first reported that an inside leak was suspected. High amounts should have been wagered on The Mamas as the winner of the betting company Betfair just after the phone locks closed.

The gaming company Swedish Games noticed the increase that took place at Betfair.

"We noted these gaming activities on Saturday, that there was a sharp deviation after the phone locks closed," said Dan Korhonen, head of sports betting and game safety at Svenska Gambling to Aftonbladet when the suspicion was first vented.
