Since this weekend, it is now prohibited to mow in the middle of the day in Morlaix. - SIERAKOWSKI FREDERIC / ISOPIX / SIPA

  • The mayor of Morlaix has just issued a decree to regulate noise pollution during the day.
  • The text, in force since Friday, prohibits residents from mowing the lawn between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • This measure aims to allow nursing staff to rest in the best conditions.

The authorities keep reminding that confinement does not mean vacation. With the return of sunny days, some still took advantage of this forced rest to heat the mowers and brushcutters in their gardens.

This boom in gardening and DIY was of course predictable. But it was hardly appreciated by the nursing staff of Morlaix (Finistère), starting with the night teams. "Several people in the emergency room told me that I had trouble sleeping, especially in the morning, because of the sounds of drills, mowers or hedge trimmers," said Agnès Le Brun, the city mayor contacted by 20 Minutes .

To allow the nursing staff to rest in the best conditions, the elected official therefore issued a decree still unpublished in France. The text stipulates that "noisy work of any kind (brush cutting, mowing, indoor DIY work) is prohibited between 9 am and 3 pm every day". The decree will apply throughout the territory of the municipality where "there are many houses with gardens" and until the end of the confinement period.

A fine of 68 euros for violators

"It is a decision of common sense, justifies the mayor. Everyone must be united during this period. And the priority is that the health personnel, who are very mobilized, can benefit from the optimal conditions of public tranquility to rest. ” In the event of an infringement, offenders will be fined 68 euros "without the need to make acoustic measurements", the text specifies.

Barely taken, the measure already seems to have been understood by the inhabitants of Morlaix since no ticket has yet been issued. "All the noise stopped dead," says Agnès Le Brun, who now hopes that this solidarity will last.
