Fam Lekhyrat is in the town of Aghoratt, in the department of Assaba, whose capital is Kiffa. It is 604 km from Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Publicity

Assaba is an agro-pastoral zone, but it is also a transition zone for animals transported over 1,200 kilometers to the markets of Nouakchott, Nouadhibou and even in Senegal. This is why the Ministry of Rural Development, through the Pastoralism Support Project in the Sahel, has built two rest areas at Robinet in Brakna and Fam Lekhyrat in Assaba.

For the foreign visitor, the Assaba are mountains, a succession of hills, sand dunes and dry valleys, all open to the wind due to heavy deforestation. The infrastructure built by PRAPS in Fam Lekhyrat cost around 81,456 US dollars. We thought of the comfort of animals, but also of the men who drive them. Water, electricity, animal feed, a pharmacy, a water tower and several drinkers.
