  • Practical guide: coronavirus symptoms, treatment and how to avoid contagion

The great milestones are made of small steps that add up, of personal sacrifices for the common good. The numbers of this coronavirus crisis are not very encouraging and the confinement (for now, 28,572 cases and 1,720 deaths), which has just been officially extended for another 15 days , does not help to feel better, but in the midst of all this darkness there are hopeful stories that give us all strength to continue fighting and see light at the end of the tunnel.

It is the story of the first patient extubated at the Hospital Clinico San Carlos in Madrid. The video of that moment has gone viral on social networks and is that everyone is eager for news like this. In the images you can see some members of the ICU team taking the intubation away from the patient between the applause and the joy of all the health professionals who are there.

At the San Carlos Clinical Hospital there have been patients with assisted breathing for two weeks. In this case, for now there are no specific data on the patient, his age or if he had previous pathologies. Throughout Spain there are already 1,785 people admitted to intensive care units, 834 in Madrid alone.

There are a total of 200 health professionals overturned in three shifts 24 hours a day in the ICU of the Clinical Hospital, leaving their skin so that all those patients - and those who will presumably arrive in the next few days - get ahead. And like them, thousands of other professionals delivered in all hospitals in our country. Hopefully soon we will all applaud the last extubated by Covid-19 in Spain.
