The homeless of Rome have become completely destructive .. In the face of the dangers of the Corona epidemic, life in the city has slowed, and their lives have become more difficult and the city more terrifying.

Many homeless people sit on the seats in Via Pretoriana, behind Termini's main transport station in the Italian capital, where they negotiate and play cards before handing out food to them by the Civil Protection Service.

Some put a mask on his face, while others regret the failure to distribute masks to them, or the impossibility of finding masks in the city.

The displaced people confirm that their living conditions have become more difficult after the measures taken to empty the streets to combat the emerging Corona virus.

"It is very difficult because I usually have found work during the weekdays, but now everything is closed, and I have not worked for the past three weeks," explains Emilio, a homeless Venezuelan.

"Food security is a problem and so is the shower," he said. Everything is a problem in itself. In Rome, you can find food and a place to shower, but now everything is closed. ”

And the life of the homeless will be more complicated in a city whose people only go out when necessary to buy needs, according to Lucia Lucini, a member of the Saint Egidio group, a Catholic association that works to help homeless people in the city.

"The city is empty and there is no other way to get help," she says. So the situation is getting worse. ”

On Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings, the association distributes a hot meal to the homeless, and the volunteers provide them with masks made by the association's tailors and give them advice on how to cope with the disease.

"People who come to eat are afraid and need to understand what is going on," Lucia Lucini added. We take advantage of this time and while eating, explain to them the distance they are supposed to preserve with others and give them basic instructions to protect themselves. ”

"The empty city continues to be scary for those who have no place to sleep or live, and now it has become more frightening."
