The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong has increased to 273.

Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Center for Health Protection, said that the new confirmed and preliminary positive cases included 20 women and 17 men. Among them, the youngest is 20 months and the oldest is 72 years. The cases included six students and two Cathay Pacific staff.

A Canadian tour group has had 5 confirmed diagnoses and 2 initially positive. In the cases related to the Discovery Bay wedding, 6 people have been diagnosed and 1 has been positive.

Zhang Zhujun said that a small number of new cases have no travel history. The source of the infection was not found in two other cases, including a 50-year-old woman living in Kwai Chung and working in Tsuen Wan, and a 48-year-old man working on Hollywood Road.

Zhang Zhujun said that many overseas students and Hong Kong people who have lived abroad for many years recently returned to Hong Kong from the outbreak, and the number of imported cases naturally increased. The Centre for Health Protection stands ready to monitor these cases, hoping to stop the spread of the epidemic in the community.

She pointed out that when most of the new cases are imported, a containment strategy may be adopted, and when there are more unsourced cases and the isolation of close contacts is invalid, the strategy may change.
