  • Like Christian Estrosi, Robert Ménard announced the implementation of the curfew in Béziers.
  • In Perpignan, where five people died from the coronavirus, it was the prefect who took this measure by prefectoral decree.
  • Philippe Saurel, the mayor of Montpellier, announced the imminence of the measure in the seventh city of France.

Like Nice, the municipalities of Béziers and Perpignan are now subject to a curfew in order to combat the spread of the coronavirus. In Béziers, it will be effective from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until March 31 (for now). In Perpignan, it is even more restrictive since it is spread over an eight-hour time slot, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., until April 1. Montpellier will very quickly be subject to these same restrictions.

"In agreement with the mayor of Perpignan, the public prosecutor, and the director general of the ARS, the prefect of the Pyrénées-Orientales decided, in view of the health situation, to institute a curfew on the whole of the municipality of Perpignan, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., from this day until April 1, 2020 ", indicates the prefecture of the Pyrénées-Orientales in a press release.

Considered a crime in Perpignan

On Wednesday, the prefect was moved by the number of vehicles on the road, suggesting a stricter application of containment measures. "[Their number] at the entrance to the northern penetrating Perpignan was more than 1,000 vehicles per hour this morning, after the hiring period, which appears to be in contradiction with the mandatory confinement measures".

This decision implies the imperative obligation to stay at home during this time slot. Any offender is liable to criminal prosecution. While Perpignan is one of the Covid-19 clusters in Occitania (five people have died there since the start of the pandemic), it is a tightening of containment measures. They have so far been liable only to a fine.

In Montpellier, the mayor announces an imminent curfew

In Béziers, Mayor Robert Ménard (DVD) signed this municipal decree this Saturday with immediate effect. To justify this curfew, the first magistrate of the sub-prefecture of Hérault deplores in particular that "despite the measures taken by the government, many individuals continue to move out of their homes for reasons unrelated to those who make subject to a derogation from the travel ban ”. Montpellier should be the next city to introduce a curfew.

# Covid_19 I decided:
* Closure of all food markets
* Public transport dedicated to those who are authorized to work
* As soon as possible installation of a 22h / 5h curfew
* Provision of the Bernard Gasset gymnasium for food aid to the most deprived @ afpfr

- Saurel Philippe ⭐️⭐️ (@Saurel_P) March 21, 2020

The mayor, Philippe Saurel (DVG) calls for the “closure of all food markets”, that “public transport be dedicated to those who are authorized to work”. He promises "as soon as possible the installation of a curfew between 10 pm and 5 am" as well as "the provision of the Bernard Gasset gymnasium for food aid to the most deprived".

By way of derogation, the curfew in these municipalities will not apply to people who - under cover of presentation of professional proof - must travel between their home and their place of work. But also taxi drivers, people who fulfill a public service mission, medical staff or those in charge of personal aids.
