Will line B of the Rennes metro be able to open on December 21, 2020 as previously announced? Rennes Métropole has long promised this, “except in the event of the unexpected”. The unexpected is there and has the code name Covid-19. Faced with drastic health regulations and concerned about the health of workers, Semtcar, the public company which manages the site, had no choice but to stop the line B site at the start of this week .

In reality, everything is not stopped. "During this exceptional period, Semtcar maintains its project management activity (general management, administrative management, payment of companies, etc.), but site activities incompatible with health precautions are interrupted," specifies Rennes Métropole.

Maybe a few more tries

Some tasks may however continue, in particular studies carried out in the office or teleworking. And maybe a few train tests "when the conditions are right". By continuing with certain activities, Semtcar hopes to "limit the impacts on the project" and for "an effective resumption of activity" when the health situation has improved.

While the containment measures have just started and seem to be going on, it is currently impossible to say whether the inauguration could take place at the end of the year as had been envisaged. We also do not know the financial impact of this unexpected on the overall envelope. The construction of line B of the Rennes metro was valued at 1.3 billion euros.
