If Niger has always been a transit country for Africans migrating to work in Libya and Algeria, it has become a country of installation since the Arab revolutions and the end of the Gaddafi regime in 2011.

Publicity

Since the migrant reception crisis in Europe in 2015, Mahamadou Issoufou's Niger has even become what some people call the new southern border of Europe. The EU and, unilaterally, some of its members provide financial aid, logistical support and training to help control migration flows. Their growing presence and that of international organizations has profoundly changed this country, where more and more migrants are now settling.
