He will come into contact with offenders to repeat the rules of confinement. Since the beginning of the afternoon this Thursday, a drone equipped with a loudspeaker criss-crosses the Promenade des Anglais, in Nice, to support the police patrols by limiting the rapprochements, indicates at 20 Minutes the prefecture of the Alps- Maritimes.

The Côte d'Azur initiative, modeled on similar devices used in China and other European states affected by the coronavirus epidemic, would be a first in France. "It was a local drone operator who offered us his services and the experiments carried out in other countries seemed interesting," said the director of the prefect's office Jean-Gabriel Delacroy. In Nice this Thursday, the drone could also go on patrol over Cannes and other major cities in the coming days.

Messages for those who do not respect distances

Alongside the police, the operator of the machine will fly over passers-by who do not seem to respect the instructions (exits are only authorized for doing sport alone or for walking a dog) to deliver two messages to them. "We will remind by this way which movements are prohibited and also insist on the safety distances to be respected between people", he specifies.

This Thursday, like all the prefectures located on the coast, that of the Alpes-Maritimes took a decree prohibiting access to the beaches, at least until March 31. A measure that could be extended to all major pedestrian walks on the Côte d'Azur as of Friday "if people do not take responsibility".

The beaches closed this Thursday "and we could go further," warns the prefecture
