Before the cinema weekend last week, Filmstaden assumed that they limited the number of people per salon to one hundred. During Tuesday afternoon, new news comes: All cinemas will be closed until March 18.

The smaller companies Svenska Bio and the Cinema scene are kept open.

The rental streaming service SF Anytime will show the films that are going to the cinema right now that are made by the film company Universal, such as The Hunt and Emma.

"Several other film companies, both Swedish and foreign, are in the starting pits with similar efforts to meet the falling audience figures at cinemas in the Nordic countries," writes SF Anytime.

"A security measure simply"

According to Helena Eklund, Marketing Manager for Filmstaden, this is a Group decision. As of 2018, the Film City is owned by the Odeon Cinemas Group, which is part of the American cinema company AMC, which has already closed all its cinemas in Europe and the USA.

Why not settle for limiting the number of visitors per impression?

- This is a security measure simply that is in line with how you think across Europe. It feels right, it is safe for our guests. When this has blown over we open again, says Helena Eklund.

When do you think it could be?

- As soon as society returns to normal, we open. That's what we want to do.

From March 18, cinemas are only open to those who want to come and get a refund on their tickets. Anyone who is unable to go to the cinema will receive help with a refund through the customer service.
