A study of 10 Chinese children who were infected with the emerging corona virus revealed evidence that the Covid-19 lung disease, caused by the virus, can appear in the form of a less serious infection, which indicates the difficulty of detecting the disease on the basis of symptoms alone.

The study, supervised by Chinese researchers, and published in the journal Nature Medicine, found yesterday that one of the 10 children had no symptoms at all, and that the rest of the children had mild symptoms.

The researchers also concluded that the virus could continue to appear in fecal samples, long after its effect on nose and throat samples disappeared.

The researchers said that stool samples may be a more effective way to determine the time period for isolating children.

They indicated that they examined the 10 children in a hospital in Guangzhou, because they are members of families of some of whom have suffered "Covid-19", or have close links with people who have been diagnosed with the disease.

The children, six males and four females, ranged between two months and 15 years old.
