Amid the complication of the situation with the spread of the coronavirus infection COVID-19, large Hollywood studios suspend work on their projects and postpone the premieres of the expected films. So, last week, Disney announced a decision to suspend the production of all the paintings in which the actors are involved. This applies to films, work on which was supposed to begin in the near future, and films already in production.

Among the deferred projects is the film adaptation of The Little Mermaid, a classic studio cartoon. The shooting of the tape of Rob Marshall with Hally Bailey, Javier Bardem, Aquafina and Melissa McCarthy was supposed to start in London in late March. A new filming start date will be announced later.

The studio also postponed work for an indefinite period on the adventure fantasy “Peter Pen” and the fantastic comedy “Reduced” - the sequel to the 1980 film “Darling, I have reduced children.” Both projects were at the pre-production stage.

In addition, the filming of Guillermo Del Toro’s thriller Alley of Nightmares, which started in January in Toronto, was interrupted and the filming of the historical drama directed by Ridley Scott's The Last Duel with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Adam Driver was stopped.

The premiere of the last picture was scheduled for December 25, 2020, but a forced break may delay the release.

Other Disney projects that have been paused include movies from the re-launched franchise Home Alone, the Falcon and Winter Soldier series, and the action movie Shang Chi and the Ten Rings Legend. The last picture is “frozen” due to the self-isolation of director Destin Kretton, who recently became a father. In order not to endanger the baby, Cretton decided to test for coronavirus. While there are no results, the director prefers not to contact anyone. At the same time, as noted by the media, although the work of the main film crew is suspended, the production departments continue their activities.

“Although there were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 coronavirus infection on the sets of our films, we took into account the current state of affairs in the world, as well as the interests of our actors and members of the crews, and decided to temporarily suspend the production of some of our feature films,” A statement from a Disney representative. “We will continue to follow developments and resume filming as soon as possible.”

The negative impact of the coronavirus was also felt by the already shot studio projects. The company has postponed the world premiere of the classic Disney fairy tale Mulan, scheduled for March 27, as well as the release of the fantastic horror movie New Mutants and the horror movie Deer Horns. New release dates are still unknown.

The epidemiological situation in the world has affected other areas of the conglomerate’s business. Disney closed theme parks in the US and France for at least two weeks. Cruises on company liners were also canceled.

Paramount Pictures has announced the indefinite postponement of the premiere of the romance "Lubovichki" with Kumeil Nanzhiani and Issa Ray and the crime drama Blue Story. Also, the hire of the horror “Quiet Place 2” was postponed (its world premiere still managed to go on March 8 in New York).

Director John Krasinski on his Twitter turned to fans of the project, emphasizing that now is not the best time to hire.

“I appeal to all fans of the“ Quiet Place ”. I am very proud when people say that we should watch our film together. However, in the ever-changing conditions of the world around us, now is clearly not the best time. And although we madly want you to see our film ... We will release it when we can watch it all together. See you on a movie trip to the cinema! See you soon! ”, The director said in a statement.

Back in February, the studio announced that it had stopped filming the seventh of the Mission Impossible franchise in Italy. Company representatives explained their decision by calling on local authorities to refrain from public events.

Filming for three Universal projects has also been moved. Among them is the sports drama "Like Flint", which has not yet received the name of a new film by Billy Aikner and the adventure fantasy "Jurassic World 3". The first two films were at the pre-production stage, and filming of the third began in London in February 2020. However, the filmmakers stopped working so as not to endanger the members of the group, and promised in the coming weeks to announce the timing of the resumption of production of paintings.

The studio also announced that the premiere of the movie "Fast and the Furious 9" is postponed for a year: from May 2020 to April 2021. The company commented that not all fans will be able to watch the film in May. Prior to this, the premiere of the new James Bond film “Not the Time to Die” was postponed to November.

Warner Bros. Company also announced the transfer of two projects. The studio postponed the production of a biopic directed by Baz Lurman about Elvis Presley. This happened shortly after the news that the co-star Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson became infected with the coronavirus.

“We learned that one of the members of the team involved in preparing for the filming of the Elvis Presley movie, which is currently taking place in the Australian city of Gold Coast, was diagnosed with COVID-19 based on the analysis results,” a Warner spokeswoman said in a statement. Bros - We work closely with competent Australian medical institutions to identify all persons who could come in direct contact with this person and establish a relationship with them. The health and safety of our employees is always our top priority, and we take precautions to protect everyone who works on the set of our films around the world. A coronavirus-infected person is currently undergoing treatment. ”

As noted by the media, at the moment it is not known whether the remaining members of the film crew were tested for coronavirus. Together with Hanks in the film involved Austin Butler, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rufus Sewell and others. The release of the project is scheduled for October 1, 2021.

Also Warner Bros. transferred the shooting of the fourth season of the Riverdale series in Vancouver.

Studiocanal, a European company, announced the closure of the British branch for at least two weeks, as well as the postponement of the premiere of family fantasy Marc Manden's “Mysterious Garden” with Colin Firth, Julie Walters and other actors.

“Due to the fact that the situation with the coronavirus continues to deteriorate, the studio decided not to hold the premiere of the film (“ The Mysterious Garden ”- RT) , which is primarily aimed at family and age audiences, at a time of increased risk,” the company commented.

Netflix tried for a long time not to interrupt its activities. However, due to the deteriorating epidemiological situation and the emergency regime announced by Donald Trump, the streaming service was forced to suspend the production of all its films and programs for at least two weeks.

Among the postponed projects are the fourth season of the series “Very Strange Things”, the seventh season of the comedy “Grace and Frankie”, the new multi-part Sex / Life project and the musical film Ryan Murphy “Graduation” with Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep, based on the Broadway musical of the same name.
