Some 4,400 micro-creches, authorized by the government to continue their activity in spite of the epidemic of coronavirus, "will welcome the children usually registered", assured Saturday the Federation of crèche enterprises (FFC) in a press release. The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, authorized Friday evening the activity of micro-crèches within the limit of ten children, as well as that of nursery assistants, who will be able to accommodate a maximum of six children.

According to Elsa Hervy, general delegate of the FFC, this therefore represents in theory "44,000 places out of the approximately 450,000 places of crèches existing in France", 60% of which are managed by municipalities. “The difficulty we will face on Monday is that the staff also have children to look after. "She recalls that traditional crèches" have the possibility of also accommodating, in separate living spaces, groups of up to 10 children ".

Different choices

"The structures that accommodate a much smaller number of children do not present the same risks," argued the Minister of Health in support of his decision. Another problem to manage, explains Elsa Hervy: canteen providers no longer intervene, meals must be reorganized. "For Monday, the parents will bring them," she explains, until each establishment implements a solution.

However, some early childhood professionals did not "understand" the government's choice to keep the structures welcoming fewer than ten children open. Like Marc Oswald (Krysalis group), who manages eight micro-crèches in Strasbourg and in the department. With his team, they decided that they would be closed from Monday. Given the health crisis, it would be "irresponsible" for him to leave them open. "In a week, we will go sing on the balcony, like the Italians," he explains, referring to the songs heard Friday evening in a confined Italy.

In addition, some conventional crèches will be requisitioned, and have already started to be requisitioned in Paris, for example, to accommodate the children of health service personnel. For those who are going to close, the FFC awaits clarifications on the “modalities of the partial activity”. She also advocates for the creation of “a compensation fund for childcare arrangements”.
