Toni in The Voice. - Yann Dejardin / TF1 / ITV / Bureau233

  • The Voice's battle between Toni, 23, and Isilde, 16, was broadcast on Saturday night on TF1. They sang All the Music I Love by Johnny Hallyday.
  • Toni won the duel. It was her that her coach, Amel Bent, chose to continue the telecrochet adventure.
  • Toni explains to 20 Minutes that she had two challenges to overcome: not to fall into the caricature of Johnny and convince Pascal Obispo who doubted her during the blind auditions.

During his blind audition, on Lauryn Hill's Doo Wop , Toni had Pascal Obispo and Amel Bent released. The first asked her to do "non-singing" and "restraint" when the second was completely wrapped up and saw in her "a star". At the end of her battle of The Voice broadcast Saturday on TF1, the 23-year-old Ile-de-France made everyone agree. She emerged victorious from the duel which opposed her to Isilde, a candidate of 16 years, on All the music that I love . Toni confided in 20 Minutes which follows its path in the telecrochet from the beginning and even before.

When you left the stage, you said "I made Johnny!" »Seeming not to come back ...

For me it was as improbable as ending up with green hair. It was not my delirium. I plan a lot, but singing Johnny was not on my list, for fear of doing it wrong.

Did you also want to convince Pascal Obispo, who made you understand during the blind auditions, that you were not his cup of tea?

To be sure and to know that there is someone in front of us who doubts or does not understand what we are doing is difficult. I had the impression that Pascal Obispo had received ideas about artists like me, that he thought I was limited. It is very frustrating. But it is also in my nature to want to prove things to a person who does not believe in me. The four coaches sang with Johnny and they are part of the basis of French music, notably Pascal Obispo, which I did not want to disappoint. I was afraid of going into a caricature, overdoing it or being in imitation of Johnny. If it had been a song by another artist, I would have been less afraid. There, it was a double challenge for me: ensuring the song and convincing Pascal Obispo.

What does it make you like Amel Bent to say that you are "the most complete artist" of his team?

Frankly, it makes me super happy because, before The Voice , I always worked hard, learning something new each time to add a string to my bow. Let Amel Bent say that reassures me.

Since the broadcast of your blind hearing in January, have you received any offers? Do you recognize yourself on the street?

I received some more or less serious proposals. Otherwise, honestly, it makes me weird to be recognized on the street or in public transport. The other day, someone asked me for an autograph on the TGV, I was shocked! I forget that The Voice is TV and that it has a great influence. We talk about it a lot and I want to be told about it. It's still brand new to me.

At battles, your challenge was to sing Johnny while convincing Pascal Obispo. What will be the next step, those of the KOs? ?

It will be an opportunity for me to affirm and confirm the artist that I am. No room should be left for doubt. I want to use the knockout stage to send a message about who I am and what I offer: if you like, you like, if you don't like ... I don't want to distort myself. I mean to people who ask me to do something else I don't need to do anything else to please them or to prove that I am an artist.
