His favorite quote:

"Yes, animals have a heart, a sensitivity and an intelligence that few of us suspect. We share the same world. Like us, they are earthly. We live together, next to each other, and yet we don't respect them. "

Why this book?

  • Because I really enjoyed reading this novel committed against animal suffering, which criticizes our mode of consumption. The numbers are frightening: 70 billion terrestrial animals and more than a billion billion marine animals decimated each year.
  • Because this book reminds us that the twentieth century is the beginning of absolute hell for animals with this perpetual race to industrialization, intensive farming and mass consumption. Every day you have to produce more and therefore kill more, there is no room for empathy. The only thing that really matters is profit, again and again, the system is locked and the fate of animals sealed.
  • Because this book evokes the lack of respect that we bring to animals with whom we however share our planet. "So, by what right have we assumed so many prerogatives?" Why did we decide that we are more legitimate to occupy this space? "
  • Because Doucette's story turned me upside down and touched me, without forgetting to challenge me and open my eyes.
