Cop or killer? The truth is at the bottom of a cellar and of the past, in "Trauma", first original series of the chain 13ème Rue - 13ème Rue

It was thought that David Fincher had, in a way, killed the figure of the serial killer. After Seven , and his ultimate fiction killer embodied by Kevin Spacey, then Zodiac , and his killer having really existed but never identified, the director spent two seasons of Mindhunter demystifying the serial killer, his imagination and his most famous representatives, them very real: Ed Kemper, Wayne Williams or Charles Manson. Quentin Tarantino had nailed the nail in Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood - attention spoilers - by canceling the murder of Sharon Tate by members of the "family" Manson. But serial killers are back ... in series, with Prodigal Son , broadcast this Wednesday evening on TF1, Trauma , original production of the 13th Street chain, or the teen shows You and Riverdale .

Who is he ? What does he know? Will he know the truth? It's up to you to find out in TRAUMA, November 25 on 13èmeRUE. # TRAUMA13èmeRUE pic.twitter.com/MEGRv9pwaR

My father, this serial killer

Very popular in the cinema in the 90s, the serial killer was invited in stride on television, with Dexter , Mentalist , Criminal Minds , Following or Hannibal . And always this image of the super killer, intelligent, cultivated, Machiavellian, for whom murder is an art. The new Prodigal Son series is part of this heritage, not to mention wallowing, with its young profiling hero (Tom Payne of Walking Dead ) who has no equal in penetrating the minds of killers. His secret? His father was himself a serial killer, the terrible Surgeon (the always excellent Michael Sheen), and he will be forced to collaborate with him in the course of his investigations.

The deafening silence of the lambs

If Prodigal Son does not push vice to make them meet through a glass prison, Le Silence des Agneaux is indeed the absolute reference of the series. Like that of Riverdale , who quotes it with its plot of the Black Hood, and more generally with the character of Betty. She discovers in season 4 that she has the genes of the serial killer, just like her half-brother and FBI agent Charles. Could he himself be a serial killer? Gloubi-boulga pop cultural and utlra referenced, Riverdale does not hesitate to invoke the figure of Charles Manson with his sect La Ferme and his charismatic leader Edgar Evernever, interpreted by Chad Michael Murray.

Master of suspense, @FredGrivois returns behind the camera to make the very first original French series 13ème RUE. Today, he talks about his new series.

I kill it

The first original, and therefore French, series of the 13th Street chain, Trauma does not shine for its originality with its dark cop, in the footsteps of a serial killer, whose victims are all young women. Not yet, in any case. Because the series really begins when he wakes up amnesiac from a shooting and discovers a woman kidnapped in his cellar. What if the killer he was chasing was none other than himself? Is his victim as innocent as she seems? If the end of the story is not the most convincing, and rewarding, the game of powers and mirrors is exciting enough to hold the six episodes of the series, often foiling the expectations of the public and the stereotypes of the genre, and making this cellar a real mental space.

Behind the fascination, the reality of the victims

Trauma therefore distances itself from the good old serial killer, like the teen show You , back for a season 2 on Netflix on December 26. Far from a Hannibal Lecter or a Ted Bundy, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is presented both as a sociopathic killer but also as a prince charming, and the series constantly tests the empathy of spectators. With the real risk of complacency towards him, to the detriment of his victims, very often killed outside the field. This is also the recurring concern with the figure of the serial killer, and his fascination, he overshadows the victims, both in fiction and in reality.
