The series of contaminations started with an employee of the hospital, recently infected with Covid-19 in eastern France. An employee of a geriatric hospital near Lyon, returning from Mulhouse, one of the French clusters, is currently in intensive care and four patients in the department where he works have also tested positive for the new coronavirus, said Sunday evening the Regional Health Agency (ARS).

It is the Antoine Charial Hospital in Francheville, an establishment attached to the Hospices Civils de Lyon. The employee, whose gender and age have not been specified and who works in the long-term care service, was "exposed during a stay in Mulhouse", details ARS Auvergne- Rhône-Alpes.

No more visits allowed

Its service "constitutes a point of contamination common to 4 other confirmed patients, patients hospitalized on the site", adds the ARS. In the establishment, which has approximately 186 beds (150 in long-term care unit and 36 in Ehpad), "the precautionary measures, already in force for influenza, have been reinforced", specify health authorities. In the establishment, the visits were interrupted and "monitoring of the state of health of staff and residents will be observed daily for the next 14 days".
