[Explanation] On January 30, Academician Zhong Nanshan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering met with Ian Lipkin, a well-known American infectious disease expert and director of the Center for Infection and Immunity of Columbia University School of Public Health in Guangzhou. This is not their first cooperation. In 2003, Lipkin was one of the first internationally renowned experts to come to China to assist China in the fight against SARS, and made important contributions to controlling the epidemic.

[Explanation] In 2003, it was Zhao Fengxian, a Chinese researcher at Columbia University who helped Lipkin to come to China. In the face of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Zhao Fengxian once again ran aggressively and contacted top American experts to help China fight the epidemic.

[Explanation] Zhao Fengxian once worked at the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She went to the United States as a visiting scholar in 1984, became a postdoc at Columbia University in 2000, and now works as a researcher at Columbia University. Recently, Zhao Fengxian told a reporter the story of two times she contacted American experts to help China fight the epidemic.

[Explanation] In April 2003, when the SARS epidemic spread in Beijing, Zhao Fengxian was entrusted by the Chinese Embassy in the United States to visit well-known universities such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and invited authoritative experts to China to assist in infectious disease research. After being introduced by a friend, she contacted Ian Lipkin, known as "the world's best-known virus hunter".

Then in the end I found Professor Lipkin, Professor Lipkin agreed on the spot, then our counsellor and consul were extremely happy, and then he was asked to bring his passport in the afternoon, and the next day will be signed Passed the passport and ticket to the professor. He was also ready immediately, like a soldier rushing to the battlefield.

[Explanation] Zhao Fengxian said that Lipkin was the first foreign infectious disease expert to go to China after the SARS epidemic, which greatly encouraged China's resistance to the epidemic. Lipkin's accurate judgment of the virus also played an important role in curbing the SARS epidemic. He also forged a deep friendship with Zhong Nanshan.

[Explanation] After the new crown pneumonia epidemic occurred in 2020, Zhao Fengxian once again used her network resources to contact American experts in immunology.

Can you find an expert, an expert in immunization? Because (virology) experts like Professor Lipkin have already arrived in China a lot, including Zhong Nanshan who is also a very authoritative person. What we lack now is medicine. I was then I thought of the "monoclonal antibody", and the Columbia University "monoclonal antibody" was very successful. I thought the antibody would be faster than the vaccine, so I asked Dr. Trakht, our monoclonal antibody specialist. I asked him if he was willing to go to China. He said he would go, and I was not afraid of death.

[Explanation] Zhao Fengxian said that the protocol proposed by Professor Trakht is monoclonal antibody plasma therapy, and said that it takes about two months from the time when the patient's blood sample is obtained to the research success.

At that time, I also asked him how long it took you to get the monoclonal, and he said that it took about two months from the patient's blood to success. Later, I told my friends that in this (2020) epidemic, I have done a little bit for China.
