8:44 a.m .: 15 million Italians now in quarantine
The head of the Italian government, Giuseppe Conte signed a decree which, from today, will limit travel to and from a large area in northern Italy, from Milan, the economic capital of the country, to Venice, Mecca of world tourism. All cultural, sporting or religious events are prohibited, and discos, cinemas, theaters, pubs, dance schools and other similar places must also close.
All schools and universities will be closed, as well as museums. Bars and restaurants may remain open provided they respect the safety distance of at least one meter between customers. This provision also concerns places of worship which remain open, but religious ceremonies (marriage, baptism) are prohibited until further notice.

The coronavirus epidemic in China left 27 people dead on Sunday, bringing the country's total death toll to 3,097, the national health commission said. In addition, 44 new cases of contamination were identified for the majority in the province of Hubei (center), from where the epidemic had left in December, according to the same source. Only three cases, all imported from abroad, have been recorded outside of Hubei province.
