New measure to combat the spread of the coronavirus: in the Oise, the prefect has prohibited gatherings of more than 50 people. This rule also concerns ceremonies organized during weddings at the town hall or at the church.

REPORTAGE

Getting married in the middle of a coronavirus epidemic is getting married in a very small committee. In the Oise, the prefect has prohibited gatherings of more than 50 people ... and no exceptions for weddings at the town hall or at the church. "You have the right to make a gesture of friendship while respecting the instructions for gestures that are a barrier to the epidemic," jokes the mayor of Nogent-sur-Marne during the ceremony, in front of Victoria and Mamadou.

"We had established a list of around a hundred guests, in the end we are only about twenty"

The young couple went to the town hall with only witnesses two witnesses and the groom's brother. The room with 50 seats is empty for a day of celebration. Not enough to alter Victoria's smile in her wispy white dress. The spouses would have preferred to exchange their alliances in the church, as they had planned at the outset. But coronavirus forces, Victoria had to reorganize everything. "We had to cancel everything, even the evening party, and have a small ceremony with our families instead," she said. "We had drawn up a list of around a hundred guests, and in the end we are only about twenty people."

The parents of the newlyweds were able to attend the ceremony, filmed live by witnesses. All the couples in Nogent-sur-Oise have adapted to the measures, to the great surprise of the mayor Jean-François Dardenne. "We expected to have negotiations with the newlyweds and their families but, ultimately, the married couples accepted these restrictions," he said. "The message has been received." Victoria and Mamadou have promised to renew their vows to the church in 5 years in front of a hundred guests this time.
