The Carrières de Lumières des Baux-de-Provence exhibit Spanish art through Dali and Gaudi. - Adrien Max / 20 Minutes

  • Two exhibitions on Dali and Gaudi, Spanish artists, are projected in the Carrières de lumière des Baux-de-Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
  • On this occasion, the video projection system and the audio system were renewed to "offer more emotions to visitors".

Spanish art sublimated by Provençal rock. The Carrières de Lumières des Baux-de-Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, showcase Spanish art for this new season with two exhibitions: Dali, The Endless Enigma and Gaudi, Architect of the Imaginary .

A multitude of works by Salvador Dali are projected on 7,000 m2 on the walls of the Carrières des Baux de Provence, retracing his more than 60 years of creation with works exhibited around the world, as at its foundation in Figueres, at the Dali Museum in Florida or MoMa in New York.

"Dream and reality mix"

“We can see a little of all of Dali's rich production, which is not only painting, it is also objects, jewelry, films, photos. Because Dali was an artist, a character, versatile. It was itself a work of art in itself, it was staged. And with his critical paranoid method, he has created a world, a surreal world where dream and reality mix ”, explains Gianfranco Iannuzzi, artistic director of the exhibition of the Gala-Salvador Dali foundation.

In this special place, these countless works are projected on walls up to 16 meters high, to the sound of Pink Floyd, who share the same delusional visual universe. Enough to take full eyes, and full ears, for more than half an hour.

“Careers are like a labyrinth. Dali when he built his museum theater in Figueres he said "I would like the public to leave here as if they had lived in a labyrinth. Here there is a real labyrinth, that of the quarries, and the public will walk inside so he will discover all the great variety of what Dali has left us. And he will also enter his brain a little, as he said "come in, come in my brain" ", Gianfranco Iannuzzi image.

New projectors and audio system

A short program on Gaudi, Architect of the imaginary , of ten minutes, comes to extend the experience. Here too, there is an experience in shape and color, just like the creator of Barcelona's Güell park, whose contours are projected onto huge blocks of stone.

For the occasion, the Carrières de Lumières, open since 2011, have renewed the entire projection and audio system. "There is a lot of dust and humidity so we changed the 100 video projectors that project on the walls, and the thirty or so that project on the floor and on the ceiling. The entire sound system has also been renovated to offer more and more emotions to visitors, ”explains Etienne Devic, director of Carrières de Lumières. Successful bet.
