Read moreIt is thanks to the Internet and a blog, My life is completely fascinating , that Penelope Bagieu became known at 25 years old. Publications in albums, then in the cinema, met with success. But it is then an album in two volumes which will become a bestseller, to the surprise of Pénélope Bagieu: Culottées , portraits of women from around the world who are fighting against prejudice.
“ It's huge and not expected. I do a lot of school interventions and it really gave me a lot of faith afterwards. To meet little kids from fifth grade who spontaneously put on the Culottées as a play with their school. "
The success of the two albums is such that they are adapted into an animated series. 30 episodes of 3 minutes 30 will be broadcast on France 5 from March 8. And even when she adapts the classic Road Dahl, Sacred Witches , Pénélope Bagieu retains her feminist look. For example, when she represents the eccentric grandmother of the little hero: “ He is a strong, powerful, very reassuring figure. She wants to take the little one to the casino. She does not listen when given orders. She doesn't listen to the doctors. She does not care. She challenges authority a lot. For me, it is a bit of a modern vision of witches. "
Pénélope Bagieu thus encourages women to be good and strong witches, independent and cheeky.
