Dispose of more than 2,000 kg of raw milk for school lunch Impact of school closure

As elementary and junior high schools were closed due to the spread of the new coronavirus, a company that produces milk for lunch in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture, disposed of over 2,000 kilograms of raw milk.

Founded by local dairy farmers and others, Fujinomiya Dairy, a dairy manufacturing company in Fujinomiya City, makes milk for school lunches for over 30,000 children and students who attend all elementary and junior high schools in the city.

However, due to the spread of the new coronavirus, elementary and junior high schools in the city were temporarily closed from this month, and we disposed of 2,300 kg of raw milk that had been milked for lunch.

In addition, school closures in the city last until the 19th, meaning that all meals scheduled for shipment during this period and orders for more than 90,000 km have been canceled. Currently, all of the company's production lines are shut down.

On the other hand, dairy farmers who supply raw milk to the company perform milking every day, so raw milk that is no longer used for school lunches is being sold for processing such as yogurt.

"If the factory continues to be inoperable, the management will be severe. We expect the government and other governments to provide prompt support," said Masashi Sano, president of Fuji Country Dairy.
