The activities of the National Month of Reading were launched in the UAE in implementation of the Cabinet’s decision that devoted the month of March of each year to a month of reading, with the aim of strengthening the link with reading as one of the most important elements of building an individual, stimulating society to conscious reading and contributing to the development of knowledge and enriching academic achievement.

The National Reading Month for this year will be held under the slogan "the pleasure of reading" with the participation of federal and local authorities, the private sector, schools and universities that hold hundreds of events and reading programs that contribute to enhancing the value and role of reading as a source of the pleasure that the reader feels, and establishing it is an important element in the lives of members of the Emirates community.

"We are accustomed every year to celebrating reading and knowledge during the month of March, so that our institutions, universities, and schools turn into a daily work cell, by organizing unprecedented knowledge activities, highlighting reading as one of the enduring aspects of civilization in society," said Noura Bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.

Al-Kaabi added: “The month of reading is an annual occasion to encourage reading and devise new methods that develop reading reality as a measure of the power of knowledge among peoples. Reading enriches the minds of our youth, expands their intellectual and cultural perceptions, and drives their potential energies. Conscious reading also enhances our role in charting the features of human civilization, because we see you on the experiences of those who preceded us from nations, and we draw from the books the juices of the experiences of scientists, thinkers and intellectuals ».

Noura Al Kaabi indicated that the UAE has devoted one of its years to reading with the aim of dedicating it through an institutional effort that culminated in the issuance of the national reading law; the first law of its kind establishes sustainable cultural value, and the national reading strategy 2026 which includes 30 major national orientations in the sectors of education, health, culture, community development and media And content.

The Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development stated that rooting reading in the hearts of emerging generations is a collective responsibility that we all share, stressing that the month of reading witnesses a continuous and continuous interaction after another, as last year achieved exceptional results, and government and private institutions implemented initiatives, events and programs that reached (8200) events And a nationwide initiative.

The country pays special attention to encouraging reading among students in the Arab world, where His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Arab Reading Challenge, which achieved exceptional achievements year after year, where he participated more Of the 13.5 million male and female students from 49 countries of the Arab world, and from non-Arab countries in which Arab communities reside, 67 thousand schools from the public and private sectors have participated, within different educational stages, and more than 99 thousand supervisors and supervisors of teachers and teachers, have made sure to Providing all forms of support to students.

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, has issued the National Reading Law; the first of its kind in the world with the aim of supporting the development of human capital, contributing to building mental and cognitive capabilities, supporting national intellectual production, and building knowledge societies in Country. The National Reading Law sets binding frameworks for all government agencies in the educational, societal, media and cultural sectors to establish reading among all groups of society at different age levels, and seeks to consecrate reading as one of the fixed manifestations in public facilities in the state, and the law covers everything related to reading.
