The Government of Italy has approved an emergency decree-law with measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus . Among these, the one that has surprised most is the imposition of a meter of distance between people in areas where there is a greater number of infections.

The Executive has divided the country into three zones : the red one, the most punished and comprising these eleven municipalities; the yellow one, which includes the rest of the towns of Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia Romagna, three regions that accumulate the most cases and finally the rest of the national territory for which other measures have been arranged.

The decree extended at least until the March 8, closing shops, museums and schools in the municipalities considered "red zone" where some 50,000 people live.

In the yellow zone , however, sporting events and other competitions that crowd people together remain canceled , but these are allowed to be held behind closed doors.

The opening of places of worship will be conditioned to the adoption of preventive measures to avoid crowds and museums may open, provided that they guarantee that the number of people who access will be limited and within a few quotas. The schools will be closed; bars and restaurants may open provided that their customers respect each other the distance of one meter , and there will be a limitation for the access of family and visitors to hospitals.

In the rest of the country , public administration buildings and other premises open to the public will be required to have disinfectant solutions for hand hygiene; the mayors will promote the dissemination of information in commercial premises and public transport companies will adopt extraordinary initiatives to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The distance of one meter

It is considered that the distance of one meter between people is enough so that the droplets of saliva that we expel in the air when we sneeze, cough or even talk do not reach others.

The norm is mandatory in the yellow zone, the most affected by the virus. This includes the regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna as well as the provinces of Savoa and Pesaro-Urbino.
