In San Francisco, they are filming the fourth part of the Matrix franchise. The premiere of the film is scheduled for the spring of 2021. The plot details are not disclosed at the moment, also the film, unlike the previous two parts (Matrix: Reboot and Matrix: Revolution), does not have a subtitle.

Nevertheless, it is known that Lana (formerly Lawrence) Wachowski is engaged in directing. Starring Keanu Reeves and Carey Ann Moss.

The very participation of the actors creates a grandiose intrigue around the new project: the fact is that in the final of the previous, third part (released in 2003), their heroes died. In the absence of official information, fans of the universe began to build their own theories about how the creators returned the characters to the screens.

The most obvious move seems to be the retcon (the full name of this technique is retroactive continuity), which consists in ignoring, rethinking or refuting the events that happened in the cinematic universe before.

However, fans believe that for a franchise created by the Wachowski brothers, this is too easy an option. One of the users of the Reddit platform expressed the hope that based on the available materials, Wachowski and the team will create something more original: “That story is over. Neo and Trinity are dead - the end. Let's try something new. ”

He carefully analyzed the available parts of the franchise and drew attention to the words of the Architect that Neo was not the only one chosen, because before the events shown in the trilogy, the Matrix had already been rebooted five times.

Given that the countdown begins anew, it is possible that after the reboot the same people appear in the Matrix. Moreover, there may be more than one copy of those whom the Matrix originally enslaved - new people are not born, but synthesized from a limited set of DNA.

Thus, the new film may well be a prequel - it is possible that its events will unfold in the time preceding the war of people and machines. A similar plot twist would also solve the problems caused by the aging of the actors - it is clear that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss no longer look exactly the same as 17 years ago.

A possible scenario is that Neo was enslaved when he was more than 50 years old - that is, the hero lived free for some time after the outbreak of the war of cars and people in the early 2000s. Thus, the chronology of the film will be tied to the current moment.

“In this situation, a chic tragic ending is also ensured, since no matter how Neo and Trinity come close to victory, the fact that after years (that is, in the original films) they will be born inside the Matrix indicates that they lost. No matter what the heroes do, they will be defeated, ”concluded the Reddit user.

In addition, if there are several copies of the same people in the Matrix, it is possible that Neo and Trinity existed in a different place (and at a different time).

Theories had previously been put forward about how Trinity could return to the screens. So, Screenrant remembered the 2005 multiplayer game The Matrix Online. The events in it can be considered the official continuation of the films, since the creation of the game was approved by Wachowski themselves.

The Matrix Online tells us that Neo and Trinity were experimental samples - on them machines tested the technology of converting human DNA into code. The Trinity Code has been separated from her body, and the Oligarchs are hunting for him - evil people born free and deprived of the human body.

Nevertheless, the game was closed back in 2009, as it turned out to be unprofitable, and it is not known whether its plot was taken into account when writing the script.

The new “Matrix” and the fourth film of the “John Wick” franchise, in which Keanu Reeves plays the main role, will be released with a difference of one day - May 20 and 21, 2021, respectively. This, as well as several other facts, gave rise to another paradoxical theory, according to which Neo and John Wick are one and the same character.

As fans suggest, the world described in films about John Wick is a more advanced version of the Matrix. Both stories develop at about the same time — the end of the 1990s — the beginning of the zero — and the characters have some similar qualities and talents.

Also in the movie "John Wick 2" appears "King Bowler" performed by Lawrence Fishburn, who played in the "Matrix" Morpheus. In both stories, the characters of a black actor come to the aid of the heroes of Reeves. In addition, in the films about John Wick, there are references to The Matrix, which also makes fans think that franchises are connected not only by actors.

Rumors of a restart of the Matrix appeared last spring. Then Keanu Reeves immediately declared that he was ready to play in the fourth part, if the Wachowski sisters again took up the project.

Shortly afterwards, Lana Wachowski confirmed her plans to remove the new Matrix. She also co-wrote the script with David Mitchell and Alexander Hemon. Lilly does not participate in the work on the project, but the idea of restarting responds positively.

The director of the new tape expressed her joy at the fact that Matrix returned to her life, and noted that the ideas that she and Lilly worked on in the 1990s and zero were now even more relevant.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss confirmed their participation in the project, they, as in previous films, will play Neo and Trinity. Also, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra, Yahya Abdul-Matin II and others joined the caste.

The return of Lawrence Fishburne, who played one of the main roles in the first three parts of the franchise - the captain of the ship "Nebuchadnezzar" Morpheus - is not expected. Also, Hugo Weaving, who previously appeared in the image of Agent Smith, will not return to the project.

The details of the plot of the new tape are still kept secret, but according to rumors, Yahya Abdul-Matin II can play the young Morpheus, and Neil Patrick Harris - the main antagonist.
