■ Incidents in front of the Pleyel hall

The 45th Cesar ceremony took place under tension around the accusations against Roman Polanski and the question of respect for women in cinema.

The award of the César for best achievement to the film of the Franco-Polish filmmaker, accused of sexual assault, caused the departure of the hall of actress Adèle Haenel and several other participants in the annual meeting of French cinema.

Before the opening of the ceremony, incidents briefly opposed demonstrators and police in front of the Salle Pleyel. Two Femen demonstrators were arrested "for contempt and rebellion".

Hundreds of protesters, mostly women, gathered to denounce Roman Polanski and the twelve nominations for J'accuse . Protesters with smoke bombs tried to approach the Pleyel room protected by police and metal barriers by shouting " lock up Polanski ".

The demonstration finally dispersed without incident shortly after the start of the ceremony.

Roman Polanski and the team for his film J'accuse , including actor Jean Dujardin who plays the main role, decided not to attend the César ceremony.

The filmmaker is the subject of several rape charges and is still prosecuted by the American justice system for illegal sexual relations with a minor in 1977.
