This Wednesday, at the beginning of the afternoon, the health authorities held a press conference in the prefecture of Oise, in Beauvais, after the death of a man on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday following contamination from coronaviruses. The victim was a teacher from a college in Crépy-en-Valois in the Oise. Another man, a soldier in Creil, still in the Oise department, was hospitalized in critical care in Amiens.

Etienne Champion, director general of the Regional Health Agency (ARS), began by confirming the two cases of coronavirus contamination in Hauts-de-France. He added that these two people did not go to areas considered "at risk" and that, in fact, the origin of their contamination is under investigation.

Investigations launched in the entourage of the two proven cases

A crisis unit has been set up and other investigations are under way, in particular with the families and relatives of these two infected people. In addition to those around them, it is also the patients and caregivers of the hospitals visited by these two men who will be contacted by the health authorities.

Etienne Champion specifies that the college professor of Crépy-en-Valois, the first French patient to die of coronavirus, had been on sick leave since February 12. Thus, according to him, only people who were in contact with him between February 12 and 25 and presenting symptoms are likely to be affected by the coronavirus.

For her part, the rector of the Amiens academy, Stéphanie Dameron, adds that the establishment where the victim was teaching is currently closed due to school holidays. Its reopening, normally scheduled for Monday, is subject to evaluation.

More generally, the prefect of the department, Louis Le Franc, announced the opening of a local information telephone line at 03.20.30.58.00. He also added that there were no plans to cancel flights to Italy from Beauvais airport to date.
