A plum blossom festival was held at Kitano Tenmangu in Kyoto, where Michizane Sugawara was held. Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, participants in masks became noticeable even in the usual wilderness.

At Kitano Tenmangu in Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto, the Umebana Festival is held every year on February 25, the anniversary of Michizane's death, in favor of Michizane Sugawara, who is said to have liked plum blossoms.

About 1,500 plums of 50 varieties in the precincts are about two weeks earlier than usual, and they are now in full bloom.

A tea ceremony was set up on the grounds, and the participants enjoyed tea made by geiko and maiko dressed in gorgeous kimonos.

About 3,000 people participate in the open field every year, but the number of participants has been reduced to 1,000 due to the spread of the new coronavirus, and participants in masks have been noticeable.

A woman from Kita-ku, Kyoto said, "I come every year. It was an unusual sight to drink tea while removing the mask, but the tea bowl used for the tea ceremony was beautiful."

You can enjoy the plum trees on the grounds until the middle of next month.
