President Donald Trump deplored that he won the Oscar for Best Film for South Korean Parasites , wondering how a foreign film could get that honor .

At a rally in Colorado Springs this Thursday night, the president of the United States criticized the Oscar committee for awarding the aforementioned prize to the Bong Joon-ho movie, the first time a non-English film wins this award.

"How bad were the Academy Awards this year?" Trump asked the crowd taking her to the boo. "Did you see them? And the winner is a South Korean movie. What the hell was that all about?

"We have enough problems with South Korea, with trade. Besides, do they give them the best movie of the year? " Asked the president, incredulous.

Trump then wondered why Bong's film won when there is an Academy Award for Best International Feature, which Parasites also won at this year's ceremony, before asking if there was a precedent. The South Korean film also won two more Oscars for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

Parasites , a comedy that explores class divisions, made history by becoming the first non-English language film to win the annual Hollywood biggest prize.

"Was it good? I don't know," said Trump, who seemed to indicate he hadn't seen the movie.

Neon, the US distributor of Parasites , responded to the president on Twitter, saying his opposition to the subtitled film was "understandable." "He can't read," he wrote in the account, suggesting that the president only makes fun of the movie because it has subtitles.

Throughout the awards season, Bong urged the American public to overcome their stubbornness when watching movies with subtitles . In January, after Parasites won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, Bong said during his speech that "once you overcome the one inch high barrier of subtitles, you will be presented with many more amazing movies. I think we use only one language: cinema, "he added.

Trump, whose presidency is based on a nationalist slogan "United States first," said it was time to recover the classics of the golden age of Hollywood .

"Can we recover What the wind took please? Sunset Boulevard ?" Asked the president, who also criticized the Oscar winner for best supporting actor, Brad Pitt, who supported the political trial against the president.

"And then there is Brad Pitt, I was never a big fan of his. He got up, said a little smarty thing. He's a little smartie," he said of the actor's words at the movie gala.

In his speech, Pitt reflected on his childhood and his beginnings in the film business before briefly mentioning the end of Trump's political trial. "They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds longer than the Senate gave John Bolton this week. I'm thinking maybe Quentin [Tarantino] makes a movie about that. In the end, adults make the right thing".
