In the 20 Minutes news podcast “Minute Papillon! ", On Friday, it is a meeting" Everything explains ". Today we meet the writer Emmanuelle Richard, 34, who publishes her fourth book, Les corps abstinents (Flammarion, 19 euros). This book discusses sexual abstinence, whether suffered or desired, a source of suffering for some, of emancipation or freedom for others…

For Emmanuelle Richard, the most relevant definition of sexual abstinence is "having libido, wanting to make love, but that, for 1001 reasons, this is not possible. "

This book, which combines 37 testimonies and autobiographical elements, questions: who are these abstinent bodies? Who are those without shared sexualities?

So many situations, chosen or not, which reveal different experiences. For Sandrine, the absence of sexual relations is linked to a difficulty in establishing a bond of trust with the other. For Sylvia, on the contrary, it is a liberation. For Hadrien, it is a continuous suffering…

Abstinence, if it is a choice, "can be a source of empowerment and emancipation," writes the writer. There remains the question of the absence of touch, physical tenderness and shared intimacy, sometimes very difficult to endure.

Emmanuelle Richard, who reveals that she has been "abstinent" for five years, discusses this very diverse subject in our podcast. This interview can be listened to in the audio player above.
