Tuesday, doctor Jimmy Mohamed talks to us about diabetes. According to a study, this disease, which affects around four million French people, can be treated without treatment thanks to sports activity and monitoring of one's diet.

It is the first cause of amputation in France (excluding accidents), with 9,000 cases per year, the second cause of cardiovascular accidents, and the first cause of blindness after 65 years with more than 1,000 cases per year: the type 2 diabetes is still taking its toll. 25% of diseases that attack the kidneys are also attributable to it, and it is estimated that 500,000 to 800,000 French patients do not receive any treatment. About 4 million people suffer from diabetes in France. This disease is a factor of irreversible destruction of health. An English study relayed Tuesday by Doctor Jimmy Mohamed, in Without appointment, however reveals that it is possible to treat type 2 diabetes without medication, thanks to a sporting activity.

Twice as likely to cause a complete remission of diabetes

This English study is very encouraging. The researchers observed the evolution of 900 patients, aged 40 to 69 years, with type 2 diabetes which has just been diagnosed. They were divided into two groups: one who will be followed intensively for two years, who will try to make them lose weight, by monitoring their physical activity but also their consumption of alcohol and food. The other group is followed in a conventional manner. And we observe a very interesting phenomenon: in the five years that follow, people who lose 10% of their weight in the year after the diagnosis are twice as likely to cause a total remission of diabetes, and this without treatment medical! On the other hand, if we lose between 5 and 10% of our weight, then the difference is not statistically significant.

As a reminder, the website of the French Federation of Diabetics also allows you to take a test, which assesses our risk of becoming diabetic over the next ten years. Just enter simple data such as age, weight, eating habits and height. Based on these results, it is advisable to adapt our diet and physical activity to prevent potential health risks.
