Parasite (or Parasite) is the name of a Korean movie that has caused uproar and noise around the world in the past few days, being the first non-English language film to win an Academy Award, as well as two Oscars for Best Screenplay and Best Director. The author of the movie’s story is himself a screenwriter, and also the one who directed it, the creator Bong Joon Ho, the film is a kind of black comedy, and as much as some comedies at the beginning, it soon reveals doses of sadness, pain and anger at the same time, and watching the film shows how poverty can To hurt and deprive people of their most basic rights as human beings, such as food, drink, and clothing, and how much hatred can be generated towards wealthy groups of society, and how disrespect for the poor classes can lead to the effects of destroying society as a whole.

- I find that our directors and filmmakers in the Arab world have failed miserably in presenting works that rise to the Oscars.

The movie has brilliantly shown a face for advanced South Korea, of which I have written an essay in this column. Despite the tremendous progress of South Korea, there is still a great disparity between the classes of society, and there are still those who do not find a shelter worthy of their humanity and have the sustenance of their day. It also shows the extent of the developed countries inability to face the anger of nature, when heavy rains fell the displacement of a large number of people, and they did not find shelter except for some gyms, and everyone became equal and spread the land. The story of the film is that members of a poor family exploited a rich family, where they were able to secure jobs for themselves in the rich family through deception and fraud, and they continued to deceive the family until things reached the point that it was no longer possible to fix what was corrupted.

Looking at the topic from another angle as an Arab citizen, I find that our directors and filmmakers in the Arab world have failed miserably in providing works that rise to the Oscars or any prestigious awards, unfortunately, despite the financial and human wealth and civilizational and cultural heritage in our Arab region, filmmakers are still panting behind the works The descending that addresses instincts or relies on insignificance, silly dialogues, or exaggerated drama. The film industry is one of the most important industries that can generate an income that exceeds all other income sources, such as tourism or even manufacturing, and it suffices to know that the animated movie "Frozen" s D earned more than $ 2.5 billion, in addition to revenue from movie characters ’rights to thousands of products and toys. The film industry also plays a strong role in influencing people and is one of the most important elements of the soft power of countries. Do we realize this and catch up ?! I hope that.
