On February 5, a resident of the town of Pennautier (Aude) reportedly set out to destroy his neighbor's house with a bottle of gas. He is said to have already threatened the resident with death and to have committed multiple degradations in his home.
The suspect would have decided to take action before the gendarmes, alerted, intervene right at the right time to avoid the massacre. "His action (that of the suspect, note) is interrupted by the rapid arrival of the gendarmes (...) who arrest him," they said in a Facebook post reported by the Independent.

The suspect was taken into police custody and then brought before the prosecutor. Provisional detention was required in view of the seriousness of the acts. The man was imprisoned at the Carcassonne prison. He will be tried in immediate appearance on March 12, 2020 in court.
