A powerful Atlantic cyclone is approaching the European part of Russia, which will bring strong wind to the region and lower atmospheric pressure. This was reported to TASS by the supervisor of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand.

“Now a cyclone is developing over the Atlantic, supertropical in its pressure. This is rarely seen even in the tropics, where they are. The pressure is incredibly low - 930–935 hectopascals (697.5–701.3 mm Hg at the epicenter. - RT ). According to some forecasts, there will be less than 930 hectopascals. This is fantastic, ”said Wilfand.

According to him, the first signs of the approach of the cyclone will begin to be felt in Russia already on the weekend, and it will reach the capital region by Monday, February 17.

“On Monday, there will be sharp changes in the weather. First of all, we are talking about wind amplification and a sharp drop in atmospheric pressure, ”said Wilfand.

According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center, cloudy weather with clearings is expected in Moscow and the region in the coming days, with slight precipitation in places. In the daytime, the air temperature warms up to 0 ... + 2 ° C, at night the thermometers will show -1 ...- 3 ° C. At the same time, because of the icy conditions, the “yellow” level of weather danger remains. The warning is valid until 12:00 Saturday, February 15.

"Signs of this winter"

Tatyana Pozdnyakova, the chief specialist of the Moscow Meteoburo, in an interview with RT, noted that during this winter, residents of the capital more than once experienced the effects of warm cyclones.

“Such cyclones have become signs of this winter. With their centers, they pass through the north of European Russia and we, as a rule, fall into their warm sectors, ”the meteorologist noted.

In the coming weekend, the capital will be located in a zone far from the center of the cyclone, as explained in the Moscow Meteuro Bureau. The pressure will be slightly elevated. At the same time, a warm wind will continue to blow, which will bring another batch of heat.

According to Pozdnyakova, on Saturday it will clear, the sun will appear, but "with fewer clouds, the nights will become a little cooler." At night, on weekends, the temperature will fluctuate within -3 ...- 5 ° С, during the day the indicators will be positive - about +1 ... + 2 ° С.

Tropical cyclone in the middle latitudes

As Roman Wilfand explained in an interview with RT, the tangible effect of the approaching cyclone will begin next week. Most obviously, it will affect the weather on Monday, February 17.

“We predict that the average wind speed will be 8-13 m / s ... And, just as importantly, warming is expected. Moscow will be located on the southern periphery of this cyclone; there will be a powerful removal of warm masses, ”Villefand emphasized.

According to him, even at night, the temperature can rise above the zero mark, the thermometer bars will show -2 ... + 3 ° С, in the afternoon the air can warm up to +5 ° С.

“On Tuesday, day and night, the temperature will be positive from zero to +5 ° C. Such powerful cyclones in extratropical latitudes are rarely seen, ”the meteorologist added.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center, by the beginning of next week the pressure will drop to 742 mm Hg. Art., with the norm for Moscow - 748 mm RT. Art.

“Already this year there were days when the pressure dropped by 17-20 mm per day. In the future, there will also be a decrease in pressure. By Wednesday (February 19th - RT ) it will fall to 734 mm Hg. Art. ”, - said the weather forecaster.

At the same time, Wilfand assured that this pressure drop is not critical, and neither hypertensive nor hypotonic should feel these changes.

“It is clear that if it changed by 50-80 mm, it would be a different situation, but this range is not critical,” he concluded.

In the forecast for a longer period, global changes in the nature of the weather are not expected. As the head of the laboratory of the Hydrometeorological Center Lyudmila Parshina told Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the temperature in March in Moscow will be within normal limits. At night, small frosts are still possible up to -5 ° С, in the afternoon the air will warm up to plus temperatures.

For his part, Roman Vilfand stated that it is still difficult to give a more accurate forecast for March, since forecasts for long periods are more uncertain.

“The a priori probability, confidence in their implementation, is significantly less than in the forecast for short periods,” the source said.

Meanwhile, animals that usually go out of hibernation as heat approaches, have already begun to wake up. The Leningrad Zoo reported that groundhogs came out of hibernation. At the same time, in 2019 this happened only at the end of March, and in 2018 - only at the beginning of April.
