Good news for the theater: the 32nd Molières ceremony will be broadcast in mid-May on France 2 at an hour of large audience. It is the first time in ten years, as Le Parisien announces.

The evening, which awards the most prestigious awards in French theater, will take place at the Théâtre du Châtelet and will be broadcast live at 9 p.m. on France 2. The master of ceremonies will be the actor Bruno Solo who succeeds the humorist Alex Vizorek. He will be accompanied by a “myriad of artists” to present the 19 awards for two hours.

One million viewers

Modeled on the César of cinema, the Molières aspire to reach a wider audience, a goal that was hardly compatible with a broadcast in the second half of the evening. Last year, the ceremony was broadcast on France 2 from 10:45 pm. If the evening struggles to captivate a large audience, the audience share has stabilized around 11% since 2016 (around one million viewers).

The president of the Nuit des Molières and influential owner of several Parisian theaters, Jean-Marc Dumontet, who had saved the ceremony a few years ago after a three-year hiatus, had explained to AFP that the chains generally apprehend broadcast such an evening during peak hours for fear that the theater "is not for the general public".

Blanche Gardin crowned

The ceremony in 2019 was briefly disrupted by the appearance on the scene of intermittent "yellow vests" denouncing the budget cuts for culture under the eyes of Minister Franck Riester.

It was also marked by a bunch of very feminine nominees, especially in the stand-up where the male humorists were absent subscribers and where Blanche Gardin was crowned.
