INTERVIEW

Francis Huster seems to lead an accomplished life. At the Hébertot theater from February 20 with the play Transmission , he has also just published Pourquoi je t'aime (Le Cherche-Midi), writing "so that people love themselves", in his own words. But getting there isn't always without pain. The 72-year-old actor, guest of Europe 1 Wednesday, spoke about a traumatic episode from his childhood. When he was eleven years old, a man broke into his grandmother's house and raped him. "I became another, it's as simple as that," reveals Francis Huster.

"I changed my life, my personality"

"I changed my life, my personality," continues the actor. And it is in the theater that he finds refuge. At 15, he enrolled at the municipal conservatory, then at the Florent course, joined the National Dramatic Conservatory and finally the Comédie-Française. The theater and the "wonderful masters" he meets there save him. "Like someone who would fall into the vertigo of music, I fell into the vertigo of feelings," he says. "An actor is wonderful. What a job! Not only do we feel feelings on stage but, moreover, we feel the feelings of the audience who share them with us."

Francis Huster is also grateful to all the women around him. "I owe everything to women. They taught me to love myself. Paradoxically, by showing me my faults," explains Francis Huster. "The more someone knows their faults, the more they love themselves, the more they respect themselves," he concludes.
