  • Since the night of Friday to Saturday, five people, including a child, contaminated with coronavirus in Haute-Savoie, are hospitalized in Lyon, Grenoble and Saint-Etienne.
  • None of these patients have a severe form of the virus, according to the Hospices Civils de Lyon.
  • The two confirmed cases, hospitalized in Lyon, show no symptoms and are only under observation.

Their state of health is not a source of concern. The five Britons contaminated with coronavirus in Contamines-Montjoie, in Haute-Savoie, hospitalized on the night of Friday to Saturday in Lyon, Grenoble and Saint-Etienne, do not present "not a serious form" of the virus, specialists said on Monday of the Hospices Civils de Lyon, during a press briefing.

These four adults and this 10-year-old child were infected after staying in the same chalet at the end of January as an infected Briton, returning from Singapore. The latter "was exposed to the coronavirus on January 24 during a meeting in Singapore with a Chinese from the Wuhan region," said Bruno Lina, virologist, responsible for the national reference center for respiratory infections virus, on Monday. The man then went to Contamines-Montjoie, on January 24, before returning to London where he was diagnosed last week.

Eleven people hospitalized

As soon as the French health authorities were alerted by their British counterparts, measures were taken to identify the people who had been in contact with this patient during his stay in Haute-Savoie. In addition to the five patients, positive for coronavirus 2019-nCov, six other people who had been in contact with them were placed in quarantine in the hospital as a precautionary measure.

In total, four people were hospitalized in Lyon, five in Grenoble and two in Saint-Etienne. In Lyon, the two infected patients, admitted to the specialized unit installed in emergency within the infectious diseases department of the Croix-Rousse hospital from Friday evening, are in a state of "perfectly satisfactory" health, said Patrick Deniel, secretary general of the HCL. “They have no symptoms and have no fever. Their state of health does not require the initiation of treatment: they are under observation, "added Christian Chidiac, head of the infectious diseases department of Croix-Rousse.

After the appearance of this cluster (grouping of several cases) in Contamines-Montjoie, dozens of tests were carried out on Sunday in this high Savoy village on people who may have been in contact with the infected British. "All the screenings have been negative for the moment," said Yves Gillet, deputy head of the pediatric emergency and resuscitation service. At the time of the screenings, three schools attended in Haute-Savoie by the child of infected CMI were closed.

Three closed schools

Results of the tests carried out on Sunday in his school in Les Contamines, the village where the schoolboy lives, are still expected this Monday, as are those carried out on children from Saint-Gervais, where the little one is taking French lessons. At the school in Thonons, closed since this morning and attended by the young patient for the duration of an activity, other tests are planned on schoolchildren.

For the time being, these five new cases of coronavirus confirmed in France confirm specialists on what they already knew about the coronavirus. According to Bruno Lina, "the incubation period of the virus is two to 11.8 days and the pediatric cases, on which there is little data from China at the moment, seem less serious than adults". And less frequent.

The 15th mobilized

"There is no uncontrolled chain of transmission in France at the moment and we hope that with all that is applied, it will last," added Professor Chidiac, whose infectious diseases department had to do facing the emergency this weekend. At the Samu in Lyon too, the appearance of the virus in Haute-Savoie mobilized the teams. “We have a lot of people from the Contamines who called, rather worried. We have 20 to 30 calls a day for the coronavirus. This may seem rather weak but it is very time-consuming, ”underlined Professor Pierre-Yves Gueugnaud, head of the Samu and Smur department.

Especially since at this time of the year, calls to 15 are very high. "We are overactive, independently of the coronavirus, because we are in the pandemic influenza phase, with an increase of around 30% in our activity," says Pierre-Yves Gueugnaud.
