For the second year in a row, the Oscars gala was hosted without this year. However, the traditional opening monologue got the comedians Steve Martin and Chris Rock in charge. The jokes were regularly focused on the lack of diversity on the gala of the gala.

"I think there's something missing this year," Martin said.

- Vaginor? Rock answered and made the audience laugh.

Former Oscar winner Natalie Portman also showed her dissatisfaction with the lack of female nominees this year. When she took on the red carpet, she wore a dark mantle in which several names of female directors - including Greta Gerwig, Lulu Wang and Lorene Scafaria - were embroidered.

"I wanted to draw attention to the women who did not receive attention for their fantastic work this year in my subtle way," Portman told the Los Angeles Times.

During the gala's 90-year history, only five women have been nominated in the Best Director category. In 2010, Kathryn Bigelow became the first, and so far the only, woman to win the award, for her film The Hurt Locker.

Brad Pitt Trump's lawsuit

After more than 30 years in the film industry, Brad Pitt finally got his first Oscar for his acting in the Tarantino movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, where he had a supporting role. In 2014, however, Pitt was one of the recipients of an Oscar for the film 12 Years a Slave, which he co-produced and produced. During his keynote speech, he quickly delivered a nasty political cock about the lawsuit against President Donald Trump, which ended this week.

- They said I have 45 seconds on me here. That's 45 seconds more than what the Senate gave John Bolton, Brad Pitt said, referring to the fact that former national security adviser John Bolton has not been called as a witness during the indictment.

Eminem showed up

In the usual order, the artists who were nominated in the Best Song category during the evening also performed. Among them were actor Cynthia Erivo, who was also nominated for Best Female Starring for the film Harriet, as well as Elton John, who won the award for her Rocketman song I'm gonna love me again.

One artist that stood out, however, was rapper Eminem who, to the audience's surprise, appeared on stage and performed the song Lose Yourself. The song, from the movie 8 Mile, won the Academy Award for best song in 2003 and had to be finished on a video potpourri of previous winners who showed during the evening.
