Emmanuel Macron said he was ready, on February 7, 2020, to "associate" the European countries which so wished with the exercises of the French deterrent forces. At a time when certain Member States are concerned about the disengagement of the United States from the international scene, the French position was expected. The Head of State insisted on the “deterrent” role of the French nuclear forces in a post-Brexit era which made France the only European power with nuclear weapons.
