Thirty-eight Frenchmen from Wuhan, the epicenter of the Chinese virus, landed on Sunday in Carry-le-Rouet, near Marseille. All are expected at the Aix-en-Provence firefighter training center, where around a hundred people are already in quarantine.

REPORTAGE

A third plane arrives from China on Sunday to repatriate French people from Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus. A total of 38 people are expected. They will join the Aix-en-Provence firefighter training center where around a hundred people have already been placed in quarantine for a few days. Like them and Carry-le-Rouet's patients, new arrivals will have to be confined for 14 days, the incubation period for the virus originating in China.

Some 200 returnees are free

In quarantine, the mask is mandatory as soon as one leaves his room. It is mandatory to wear it all day, 24 hours a day, and to change it every 3 or 4 hours so that it remains effective. Other requirements: take your temperature at least twice a day to monitor the level of fever and refrain from any physical contact with the outside.

In Carry-le-Rouet, near Marseille, between outdoor readings and teenagers' volleyball games, the sanitary instructions are followed in a rather serene atmosphere. The 200 or so returnees are left free in the holiday center, which has been transformed into an emergency containment area.

"A spirit of solidarity has developed among the returnees"

"It's going very well, morale is high, like the weather," rejoices Marc Zyltman, the head of the Red Cross on the spot. "A real spirit of solidarity has developed among the returnees. We organized a kindergarten class in the morning with the participation of two teachers who are themselves returnees and who offered their services to us. We arranged this kindergarten by sending equipment on site. It's something that makes you happy because ultimately life resumes its course. "

A telecommuting room is also available to adults. Some take advantage of this to undergo first aid training. So far, no cases of coronavirus have been detected among them. This was announced yesterday to the applause of the returnees, who are expected to find their loved ones in about a week.
