The six stars of "Friends". - Warner Bros. Pictures and NBC

There are countless rumors and disappointed hopes from fans regarding the return of the Friends series. According to our colleagues from Deadline, this time is the right one. The six main actresses (Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer) are said to have signed a contract for the filming of a special episode. The magazine even advances the amount of fees: between 3 and 4 million per former roommate.

The script is not yet written and no official announcement has been made. Matthew Perry, who played Chandler, however, announced on February 5 on Twitter "a lot of information to come." In view of the calm experienced by his filmography at the end of the series, everything suggests that he evokes this highly anticipated episode. The reformation should accompany the launch of the HBO Max streaming platform, according to Deadline.

Iconic… and controversial

Over the 10 seasons broadcast from 1994 to 2004, Friends has established itself as a cult sitcom. Today, she finds new fans among those who were not born on release, thanks in particular to Netflix. The streaming platform broadcast it in France until January 1, 2020.

But the series also recently attracted the wrath of certain spectators who (re) discovered it. Accused of sexism, LGBTphobia and grossophobia, Friends seems to them emblematic of a television they no longer want. These critics annoyed, in addition to the unconditional fans, the actor David Schwimmer, who played Ross. Topics that the writers would be well advised to tackle in this final episode.
