Too much is too much for Cannes City Hall. The municipality of the city of festivals has just announced that it had "blocked four massive Airbnb-type operations" to "fight against the abuse of tourist apartment rentals". Clearly, the city refused a "change of destination" to investors who had undertaken to transform entire apartment buildings into furnished accommodation.

"These massive commercial operations by acquisition of buildings, emptying them of their inhabitants, must be combated because they accentuate the housing crisis and generate unfair competition vis-à-vis hoteliers", supports the town hall. And to clarify, that conversely, "the rental of tourist furnished accommodation by individuals has positive effects that the town hall of Cannes supports".

The PLU soon changed

The buildings affected by the recent municipal decision are located in the hyper center of the city of festivals, in the streets Marceau, des Belges, Félix-Faure and in the avenue Maréchal-Joffre, popular with tourists and conventioneers.

To go further, the city indicates that the PLU will be modified in 2020 to prohibit this type of change of destination, especially in neighborhoods in tension. This will allow "to avoid decisions on a case by case basis of litigation".
