The cultural news has previously covered plagiarism in five different podcasts published by Bauer Media and the review has among other things resulted in the deletion of 129 episodes of the popular podcast Swedish murder stories. Recently, one of Mordpodden's producers of copyright infringement was convicted of plagiarizing author Lars Ohlson's book Kakelugnsmordet.

Staffan Rosell, CEO of Bauer media, believes that district court judgments are interesting and that they can lead to clearer guidelines for those producing pod seed. At the same time, he points out that Bauer Media's attitude is that those who produce the content are ultimately responsible, not the distributor.

"We have to trust those who produce podcasts"

Over a hundred episodes have been removed due to plagiarism and now a person has been convicted, does this change anything for you?

- Our responsibility is to make sure that everything on our platform is ok, if it is not then we must take appropriate measures. But I don't think there is any reasonable way to make sure in advance that everything, in every respect, is ok. We have to trust those who produce podcasts, we also help them with what applies, says Staffan Rosell.

So the district court ruling doesn't change anything for you?

- When something is discussed in the media, there will be a greater focus and greater accuracy around these issues, that is true for us as well.

Advertisers critical of Bauer media

Radio giant Bauer Media publishes a large number of popular podcasts and earns revenue, among other things, by selling advertising spots in the podcasts.

Following the cultural news review of the plagiarism in Bauer Media's podcasts, several advertisers criticized the company. Telecommunications company Com Hem and the oil company Preem completed their advertising in the podiums Swedish murder stories and Swedish murder in connection with the Cultural News review. The hamburger chain Max also spoke of a lack of confidence in the Bauer media.

"Confidence in their content is obviously reduced when this happens," said Tobias Karlsson, marketing manager at the hamburger chain Max, previously to the Culture News after the disclosures about the extensive plagiarism.

Have a responsibility to the advertisers

Staffan Rosell believes that Bauer media has a responsibility to those who buy ads in podcasts distributed by them.

Is it your responsibility to ensure that the advertiser's brand does not fall into the context of plagiarism?

- Of course, and if we find that it should be, we will unpublish those sections immediately, says Staffan Rosell.

Have advertisers contacted you and asked for their names to be removed from plagiarized podcasts after these stories were discovered?

- I don't really know, but I don't know of such a case.
