The snow flow that buried them left them no chance. Two skiers died Thursday and a third was seriously injured in an avalanche in Toussuire (Savoie), where the risk of snowflows remains high according to rescue workers who renew their call for caution.

The search for a possible fourth victim has been lifted, once it is certain that it was a group of only three skiers, said an official of CRS Modane.

High risk

The snowfall occurred in an off-piste sector. “The avalanche risk is 4 out of 5, so it's automatically dangerous. The snowpack is very unstable, "said Laurent Deléglise, managing director of the company managing the La Toussuire ski area, quoted by Le Dauphiné Libéré.

Rescuers intervened for four avalanches in Savoie today and renew their call for caution for the day on Friday. Météo-France had warned skiers since Tuesday.
