Six Korean pianists arrested for bullion smuggling in airport cart January 30, 22:17

Six Korean men and women, including pianists, were arrested for smuggling a metal case concealing gold in a luggage cart at Narita Airport. All six have denied the charges.

A total of six men and women have been arrested, including a pianist living in Tokyo and a Korean citizen, Park Myung Woo (55), and an acquaintance who is unemployed in Saitama Prefecture and Misao Ishii (58).

According to customs and police, Parker smuggled in Narita Airport in October 2017 with a metal case that concealed about 18 kg in total and 82 million yen in three luggage carts at Narita Airport. As such, there is suspicion of violation of customs law.

The case was about one centimeter thick and had a sticker on the surface that resembled a real cart and was attached to the cart with a magnet.

Customs officials have found that the gold bullion is hidden and proceeded with the investigation, and alleged that the police were arrested on July 29, and allegedly charged the investigation.

Customs is investigating in detail that it has been suspected that it has been involved in smuggling gold bullion worth approximately 2.4 billion yen based on past travel history.
