Cardinal announces resignation to pope - JP Ksiazek / AFP

A short speech. A few hours after being acquitted by the Lyon Court of Appeal of the facts of non-denunciation of sexual assaults on minors, Cardinal Barbarin announced that he would "peacefully hand over his office as Archbishop of Lyon in the hands of the Pope Francis ”. "If he wishes to see me, I will go to Rome", he continues before adding that his "thoughts" were "always towards the victims".

"Pray for me, for the diocese of Lyon that I love so much, for each of the inhabitants of this region, so that as the Lord requests, so that all may be one", he concluded, leaving the journalists with his lawyers.

Philippe Barbarin had already resigned to the pope on March 7 after his suspended sentence to six months in prison by the Lyon criminal court. The latter refused, preferring to wait for the outcome of the appeal trial. Cardinal Barbarin, however, retired from the affairs of the diocese of Lyon.
