Non-striking railway workers received a bonus with their January pay from the SNCF, thanking them for their "professionalism", "involvement" and "great availability" during the strike, according to CGT-Cheminots.

In a tweet, Bérenger Cernon, head of the union at the Gare de Lyon in Paris, indicates that the SNCF management has awarded bonuses "from 300 to 1,500 euros" to non-strikers. "At the same time, she explains that we must sell assets and make drastic savings," he protests.

Savings to be realized

"This is not the first time" that such bonuses have been paid to non-strikers, Bérenger Cernon told AFP. "It has happened in the past and it is happening more and more", but "it shocks us after the various announcements by management on savings and asset disposals to be made because we should tighten the belt, "he added.

In his tweet, he copies an extract from a letter in which an employee is granted "an exceptional gratuity of 500 euros" on his "January pay" to "thank him for (his) professionalism, (his) involvement and (his ) great availability within the framework of the strike movement which started on December 5 ”. According to the trade unionist, this employee decided to pay his bonus to a strike fund to "financially support" the strikers, because he was unable to strike himself.

Commitment and increased activity

In a declaration sent to AFP, the SNCF management "confirms and assumes the allocation by local managers of exceptional bonuses to certain agents who have mobilized in an exceptional manner and over a particularly long period to ensure continuity of service public during the strike ”.

"The commitment and increased activity of these non-striking agents have enabled trains to run including weekends and during the holidays, switch posts to be kept, and travelers to be properly informed throughout the period, ”adds management. "The attempt to controversy and politicize these classic managerial measures rewarding extra work and commitment to service is completely inappropriate," she judges.
