Suspended for recalling the facts. American journalist Felicia Sonmez was suspended by the Washington Post on Sunday for sharing in a tweet a link reminding that Kobe Bryant was charged with rape in 2003, just hours after the legend of the basketball and her daughter were killed in a helicopter crash.

Over 200 colleagues from the daily signed a letter from a union to support their colleague and demand that her safety be guaranteed. The journalist had received numerous death threats and her home address had been released.

Reinstatement after internal investigation

The Washington Post Guild union said on Tuesday that the journalist had been reinstated. Editorial Director Tracy Grant said in a statement that an internal investigation had "determined that, even if we consider Felicia's tweets unwelcome, it did not clearly and directly violate our social media policy ".

In 2003, Kobe Bryant was charged with rape by a 19-year-old employee of a luxury hotel in Colorado. The basketball player had first denied, before recognizing consensual relationships. The affair will end in 2004, without trial, but with apologies from the basketball legend and an alleged civil payment of more than two million dollars in damages to the young woman.
